Winning the Higher Ed Game: Technology Edition

Primary Presenter: David Thomas

Organization: CU Online

Role: Director of academic technology

Track: General Presentation

Topic: Disruptive Innovation

Level: For Mere Mortals

Abstract: Predicting the future seems impossible. But that is exactly what academic technology professionals are asked to do every day. What new tool will revolutionize education? Which one isn't worth the price? When will today's Twitter become yesterday's Lotus Notes? Today, as higher education faces some of its most daunting challenges, guessing right is more critical than ever. This audience-participation game predicts the future of higher education as everyone plays to win the game of higher education.

Bio: David is the director of academic technology for CU Online where he oversees the implementation and management of key learning technologies and infrastructures. He also teaches online.

Description: This presentation is a highly interactive game.

After a brief introduction to how the game is played, and the audience is provided with their game pieces, the contest starts. There will be winners and losers, shouting and cheering. The room will resemble a Stock Exchange floor and each player works to out maneuver and out guess everyone else. There will be prizes. And when the final winner is announced, the future of higher ed will be solved and the best tool tools to reach this future will be revealed.
