Abstract: Find out what all the fuss is about MOOCs and how CCCOnline is planning to use this format to deliver course content to a wider audience. The CCCOnline math department is piloting a LOOC as a Math Assessment Prep course this summer. We are using NROC content and pre-assessment diagnostic tools along with facilitated discussions and plan to expand our small pilot LOOC to a large scale Math Assessment Prep MOOC in subsequent semesters.
Bio: Erica Hastert is the Associate Dean for Math with CCCOnline and has taught and developed math courses, both online and face to face, for more than 20 years. In her current position, she is investigating the many faces of MOOCs, and is excited to adapt this design to math courses, as appropriate, at CCCOnline. Erica is also interested in exploring the latest innovations in online teaching and helping the math department determine how these might be used in CCCOnline's math curriculum.
Description: In this session, we’ll talk about how massive open online courses (MOOCs), an increasingly popular format for online classes, are revolutionizing the way students are educated. We’ll talk about what this means for students and institutions, and take a look at how CCCOnline is beginning to adopt this wide-scale delivery method to extend mathematics courses to its learners. You’ll be introduced to the free Desire2Learn MOOC platform, announced this May, and hear how other Desire2Learn customers have been using MOOCs to make learning more accessible and affordable.
