Smooth Synchronous Solutions: The Truth About Synchronous Learning Environments

Primary Presenter: Marianne Bauer

Co-Presenter: Jeffrey Bauer

Organization: Colorado State University OnlinePlus

Role: Learning Technologies Coordinator

Track: Research Presentation

Topic: Educators Connecting/Collaborating Locally & Globally

Level: For Mere Mortals

Abstract: When former U.S. Astronaut, Dr. Ron Sega came to us with a proposal to offer his Systems Engineering Master’s Program online, CSU OnlinePlus met the challenge. Four years later, find out what we learned about troubleshooting and smoothing out the Adobe Connect learning environment. Participants will learn about best practices in implementing synchronous learning environments, tips on troubleshooting and stabilizing systems and have a demonstration of an Adobe Connect synchronous environment. Bring your own device.

Bio: Marianne Bauer is a trilingual (Mac, PC, Mobile) enthusiast dedicated to helping others embrace new technologies. After teaching computers in K-12 Education for 15 years, she joined the Colorado State University OnlinePlus Learning Technologies team in 2011. Now her focus is on training and overseeing 22 student video operators to assist faculty recording 100 plus hours a week of lectures for their face to face and online classes. Marianne works closely with Colorado State University’s Systems Engineering and Biomedical Engineering Regulatory Affairs classes to support synchronous learning environments. Marianne has a Masters in Educational Technology from University of Northern Colorado.

Description: Adobe Connect runs on Mac and Windows PC's or laptops as well as many mobile devices and tablets. Plan to bring your own devices and we will try them out to see what features are available for synchronous participation.

Experience what students are required to do to set up their systems to run Adobe Connect. You will need administrative access to your laptops in order to install or possibly update your Flash, and to install the Adobe Connect Add-In.

If you have a headset (Headphones with a mic) and or a webcam, we can experience these features as well.
