Abstract: The presenters have joined forces to combine blended and flipped classroom strategies resulting in dynamic learning sessions that excite both students and faculty. Using flipped/hybrid classroom teaching-learning strategies, we will convert a lecture course into a dynamic, interactive class. Working from a backwards design, attendees will decide which types of information will be used to prepare students for class (textbook readings, articles, websites, videos, etc.). To reinforce the lesson for students during class, select from various strategies including case studies with case presentations, small group discussions, or completing homework assignments to enhance learning. Workshop attendees: please bring a course lesson plan and associated materials (i.e. list of assignment materials or resources).

Bio: Terry Buxton PhD, RN, Assistant Professor and Ms. Nicole Ellison MS.ED in the department of Learning Technology in the Rueckert-Hartman College for Health Professions at Regis University. Dr. Buxton has an extensive background teaching face-to-face and online instruction formats and most recently has been converting the entire ground-based RN-BSN program into a blended/flipped format. Nicole Ellison assists instructors in producing innovative and engaging learning materials for online courses. Both Nicole and Terry create/ facilitate faculty development programs that highlight emerging technologies that aid in the engagement of the learner.

Description: Bring a course lesson plan to this workshop with an accompanying list of assignment materials or resources students use to learn the content. Also bring a list of resources the instructor uses to present class material.
1) Briefly review class/unit learning objectives or outcomes. Articulate essential learning outcomes...by the end of this sessions students know how to....
2) Identify a learning technology that would be a best fit for your goal.
3) Identify preparation materials students will use to obtain information about subject/lesson being studied. List can include PowerPoint Presentations, podcast, videos, various websites, etc.
4) Evaluate in class learning activities which gives students hand-on use of learning materials, assignments, etc. to apply concepts and facilitate the students meeting the class/unit learning objectives.
5) Review optional support material and further flipping/hybrid teaching strategies or measuring learning outcomes.
