Idit Caperton will review recent far-reaching ed tech ideas including Sugata Mitra’s School-in-the-Cloud and Nicholas Negroponte’s One-Laptop-per-Child.
She will discuss the ways scalable technologies and programs that work within the school system may be today’s only promising route toward immediate change to support college-ready, career-ready, innovation-ready citizens.
An ATLAS Advisory Board member and founding funder of the ATLAS Speaker Series, Caperton is a pioneer in using new media technology for learning, innovation and globalization through constructionist learning theory.
She conducted breakthrough research at the MIT Media Lab that led to publishing the book Constructionism with Seymour Papert. She is the founder and CEO of MaMaMedia.com<http://MaMaMedia.com> (“THE Place for Kids on the Net”) and works with the National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT) to inspire and bring more girls into computing and technology.
Caperton is also founder of the World Wide Workshop, a non-profit that develops platforms combining game mechanics and social networking for learning. Conceptualized in 2006, the ATLAS Speaker Series is made possible by a generous donation by Idit Harel Caperton and Anat Harel.
